How to Legalise a Copy of a Degree with the Apostille
When presenting a UK degree certificate in another country, you may be asked to get an apostille on your degree certificate. The apostille is typically added to a copy of the degree, but it can also be added to an original degree certificate.
When we add an apostille to a copy of a degree, we need to either see the original certificate or, if we have only seen a copy (by email or post), we have to verify the degree is genuine with the university that issued the degree.
All degrees and other academic documents MUST be correctly certified by a solicitor before the apostille can be added. The document is certified, signed and dated by an FCDO registered solicitor.
Sending the Original Degree
This is often the quickest and simplest option.
Send your original degree to us by secure delivery (courier or special delivery). Our solicitor will check the degree and make a copy. They add a certification stating the document is a ‘true copy of the original document’. The apostille is then added and both the original degree and legalised copy are returned to you.
Email a Copy of the Degree
When we only see a copy of the degree, we have to verify the degree is genuine.
There are three ways this can be done –
Option 1 – you arrange for someone at the university to email us a confirmation of your qualifications (this could be a tutor or the records/admin office)
Option 2 – some universities allow students to share their documents or qualifications with third parties via a website/portal
Option 3 – you pay us a verification fee and complete a consent form and we will try and verify the qualification with the university ourselves. This may take time to do.
When the degree is verified, our solicitor can certify the document as a true copy. The apostille is then added to the copy. On completion we post the legalised copy document to you.
