Frequently used for:
If you are a UK citizen planning to get married outside of the UK then you may be asked to provide a certificate of no impediment (CNI) to the authorities overseas. In most cases you will need to obtain an apostille for the document.
The certificate of no impediment is produced in the UK by your local registrar office (where you register births, marriages etc.). This certificate is issued for couples planning to get married abroad.
Contact your local registrar office for a CNI.
This document is commonly used when a UK resident is getting married outside of the UK. After the registry office has checked your documentation a notice will be displayed for up to 28 days before the certificate is issued. The purpose of the document is to confirm that there have been no objections to the marriage. The no impediment certificate is normally on blue or white paper but we have seen other colour papers used. Scottish certificate of no impediment documents are normally cream in colour.
