Apostilles for UK School Documents
Legalising school reports and school documents is often required if you are applying to start a new school in another country. School documents must be correctly certified and issued with an apostille to be accepted. You will need a solicitor to certify your school document before you apply for an apostille. Because schools usually issue PDFs or Word files, not formal certificates, the solicitor must confirm with the school that the document is genuine. Only then can the solicitor certify it and send it for legalisation.
Steps you follow
Ask your school to verify the document
The school emails the Apostille Service a copy of the document directly, or
The school emails the Apostille Service to confirm the copy you provide is genuine.
Without this verification, our solicitor cannot certify it.
Print your document
We print the PDF or Word file into a physical copy. This is what the solicitor signs.Get solicitor certification
Our registered UK solicitor checks the printed copy and the school’s email confirmation. They then:Certify the document as a true copy of the verified original
Sign and date it in their own name
Add their office address and the required wording/certification
Apply for the apostille
We submit the solicitor-certified document to the FCDO Legalisation Office for a fast apostille. You can request:A paper apostille (attached to the document)
An e-apostille (digital certificate) is also possible. Please check if an e-apostille is suitable for your needs
Submit the document overseas
You get the apostilled document back by post or as a PDF if you ordered an e-apostille. You can then use it for your application.
Solicitor Certification and Apostille
Providing a complete document legalisation service for school reports.
Our solicitor will certify your document correctly for the apostille.
Why school verification and solicitor certification is required!
School documents are often editable PDFs or Word files. On their own, they carry little legal weight.
The solicitor needs the school’s direct confirmation to show the document is genuine.
The FCDO will only legalise a copy certified this way. If the school does not verify it, the application is likely to be rejected.
