Statutory Declaration
If your Statutory Declaration is already certified, we can provide the apostille only service. Most apostilles are completed in 1–2 working days once received.
If your document still needs to be witnessed or notarised, we can arrange a remote video appointment with a UK notary to prepare it correctly for the apostille. See below for further details.
If you also require translation or embassy attestation, the processing time may be longer.
Statutory declarations are used in the absence of other documents that can confirm facts or a legal position.
When You Need an Apostille for a Statutory Declaration
A statutory declaration is a legal statement made by one person in the presence of a lawyer, solicitor or notary public. This statement of fact is recorded in a written document and signed by both the person making the statement and the solicitor or notary witnessing the process. They are very similar to affidavits and the two terms are often used by overseas authorities requesting you make a sworn statement. You will often here them referred to as a ‘stat dec’.
Statutory declarations are made for many reasons. You can legally declare a statement of fact on a wide range of subjects.

Why Are Statutory Declarations Used?
Common reasons people make a statutory declaration include-
- Changing their name
- Confirming they are free to marry
- Confirming a previous marriage is now dissolved
- Confirming their own identity with passport information
- Confirming a document is an exact copy of the original
- Confirming a legal document has been lost
We are pleased to offer sample statutory declaration templates that you can edit to create your own documents. Simply download the correct version of the document, edit the document, and sign in the presence of a solicitor or notary public.
